Easter Praise
Back to Exhibition
March 2024 • Richard Whiffen
Painted during our easter gathering 2024.
I painted the cornet before the service started, while the musicians and sound-team were preparing. At that point most of the canvas was white, as if waiting expectantly for the praise to begin.
Then during the worship I painted all the colours, which represent our praises – so many voices, harmonies, themes all worshipping God.
After the message, when we all were open to receive from God, I added the yellow lines coming down – my interpretation of God’s blessing, his voice responding to our worship. There are 5 lines here – 5 is the number that represents grace.
RICHARD
I started painting Prophetic Art in 2009, during a year spent with Bethel Church, in Redding, California. We were preparing to go on a Mission Trip to Norway, and I created art-cards for the people we met, using each picture as the start of a prophetic message.
Usually, I use acrylic paints on canvas, because they are bright colours and dry quickly. Occasionally I use water-colours, or simply coloured pencils. Most of my finished pictures have been given away to someone during (or just after) the meeting – it is exciting when they see something in the picture that I (the artist) did not see!
Sometimes my art is part of my intercession, and I pause to pray, sensing Jesus’ love for a situation that is breaking his heart.
