Ship and Anchor

Summer 2023 • Richard Whiffen
I painted this picture in the Summer of 2023, during a Sunday meeting. The anchor was the important thing, I felt – then during our pre-service prayer time I sensed that there needed to be two anchors showing.
The anchors mean safety – during the storms in your life you must put down the anchors and ride out the storm. Don’t try to fight the storm, instead rest in the promises that Jesus has given you, until the storm has passed over.
RICHARD
I started painting Prophetic Art in 2009, during a year spent with Bethel Church, in Redding, California. We were preparing to go on a Mission Trip to Norway, and I created art-cards for the people we met, using each picture as the start of a prophetic message.
Usually, I use acrylic paints on canvas, because they are bright colours and dry quickly. Occasionally I use water-colours, or simply coloured pencils. Most of my finished pictures have been given away to someone during (or just after) the meeting – it is exciting when they see something in the picture that I (the artist) did not see!
Sometimes my art is part of my intercession, and I pause to pray, sensing Jesus’ love for a situation that is breaking his heart.
